Plastic Industry currently contributes Rs. 3.5 Lakhs crores to the country’s GDP and employs around 50 lakhs people. The sector has over 50,000 units, 95% of which are MSMEs. The sector is exporting plastic goods worth Rs. 40,000 crores per annum which is only around 1.5% of global market share. It is expected that the plastic sector would play a major role in India becoming US $ 5 Trillion economy by 2025. If the programmes and initiatives for the sectors are well defined and implemented, the total turnover of the sector would reach Rs. 10 Lakhs crore and thus create 1 crore job opportunities by 2027. India imported plastic products worth Rs. 37,500 crores in 2021 of which 48% was from China. AIPMA has identified 553 products that are imported in large quantity. Therefore, there is a need for Technology and market interventions so that the industry is able to make high quality products in India at a competitive cost. The conference is being organized for disseminating market and technology based knowledge to the industry. The conference would have technical sessions on innovations in raw material and processing technologies. Sessions would also be organized on emerging business opportunities due to import substitutions and export potential.
Main objective of the conference is to help the industry in import substitution and export increase thereby helping them to manufacture ‘Make in India – Make for the World’ plastic products. The agenda of the conference is to empower the industry with the necessary tools, technologies, raw material selection, and know-how to manufacture high quality plastics products. This conference would aim to highlight emerging business opportunities in the area of plastics value added products. Emphasis would be given on more than 500 identified plastic products under chapter 39 (Hs code 3916-3926) that are being imported in large quantity. Sessions on business opportunities due to import substitution of Plastic Goods and export increase, advancement in Raw material and polymer technologies, Technology innovation in plastic processing machinery, automation and processing technologies & Industry 4.0: How AI and Smart Technologies influence plastics manufacturing would be organized during the conference. Major benefit because of business arising out of import substitution and export increase would be to MSME’s as they constitute 95% of the industry.
